The story behind the painting
The Gardener’s Dream (2017)
Karen is the first close friend I made in New Zealand, and we met on her massage table in Morrinsville – a fortuitous experience in more ways than one for me, as it eventually led to my role as the Inaugural Director of the Wallace Gallery, Morrinsville. Karen’s beauty clinic is opposite the gallery, and every Friday at 5pm we’d both lock our respective doors and head into Hamilton for a film and dinner, with animated conversation filling every available space!
Karen uses her healing hands outdoors too – and is happiest when she’s in the garden, enjoying her plants and trees, either alone or while encouraging the grandkids to explore and play.
One of the strongest, kindest, most generous women I’ve ever met, Karen raised four boys on her own and is the embodiment of Love in all of her practical, professional, nurturing roles.
